Friday 5 May 2023 Historical Fiction Writing Competition by Mrs Cartledge Last term the History department launched a Historical Fiction Writing Competition for year 7 and 8. The brief was to write a short historical fiction story about any period or place in the past. There were lots of entries, and the History department had great fun reading them. It was very difficult for staff to pick a winner, but this is what we were looking for in the stories:

Tuesday 25 April 2023 Student Ministerial Team meeting Today, our newly appointed Student Ministerial Team met for the first time to discuss issues raised by our recent 'student voice' event, led by Form and Year representatives. Each of our six teams will now look to devise and implement appropriate strategies, to act upon the issues and suggestions raised by their peers. The meeting was highly positive and productive and I have been bowled over by the professionalism and maturity demonstrated by all our student leaders. Our next step will be to allocate relevant teams of student leaders to complete key tasks. Our Student Ministers will lead on this, commencing with a Student Council planning morning on Wednesday 3rd May, which will involve close to one hundred student leaders from across all year groups. Well done and thank you to all involved!

Monday 24 April 2023 Year 8 Football News Really excited for these boys. Playing South Craven last Tuesday after school in the Bradford Schools cup semi final at home they came away with a fantastic 3-0 victory. First half goals from Ben Lister, Joe Craven and Joel Hutchinson gave us a 3-0 lead at half time playing with the wind. The second half was always going to be a tough test playing against the wind, but the boys scrapped for every ball and gave everything they had against a very strong team from South Craven who had beaten us 3-2 earlier in the season. We managed to keep a clean sheet and in the end ran out very comfortable 3-0 winners at full time. The boys will be really excited to play the final later in the term. Please congratulate them if you see them around school tomorrow.

Thursday 20 April 2023 Charlie's Speedway Success Charlie's hobby is Speedway racing and he only started racing last year. Charlie has started the season well, winning the Winter Series held at Scunthorpe and raced at the weekend in the Summer Series. He won all his races but came second in the Final on Sunday. Charlie will also be racing at British Youth Level and is hoping for some silverware. His first race is at the National Stadium in Belle Vue, Manchester on Friday 12th May. He is then off to Glasgow to race in the 2nd round on Sunday 14th. There are 5 other rounds across the country all through the summer. He races on 150cc bikes with no brakes, that's right, no brakes, around an oval track. Each race lasts just over 1 minute to complete 4 laps.
