Bingley Grammar School

Year 7 Admissions Information

If your child is in Year 6 at Primary School, you will have by now received your secondary school offer. Please use the information below as a guide of what to do next.

1 . If your child has been offered a place at Bingley Grammar School AND you want to accept.

Welcome to Bingley Grammar School!

Please record your acceptance online: https://www.bingleygrammar.org/acceptaplace

or email your acceptance as soon as possible to: transition@bingleygrammar.org

or by post to:

Admissions
Bingley Grammar School
Keighley Road
Bingley
BD16 2RS.

If you do not confirm online or return your acceptance slip, your child’s place may be given to another child.

We will then start the process of gathering valuable academic and pastoral information on your child from primary school. You will also receive a link to an electronic data collection form, this will need to be completed and submitted within a month. Again, a delay in doing this could result in your child’s place at Bingley Grammar School being given to another child.

Moving on to secondary school can be both exciting and daunting, but we hope that we can work with you to make the process as seamless as possible.

2 . Your child has NOT been offered a place at Bingley Grammar School. What should you do?

If Bingley Grammar School was your child’s first preference (or a higher preference than your child has been allocated), complete the form you received from Bradford Council School Admissions (letter or email) and ask to remain on the school’s waiting list and return the form to them.

If a place becomes available, children on the waiting list will be allocated a place in line with the admission criteria.

Please do not contact Bingley Grammar School, we do not maintain the waiting list.

You MUST return the admission acceptance slip to the school that your child has been allocated, if you don’t you risk your child's place being withdrawn.

How to start an appeal against a decision not to offer your child a place.

You can appeal against the decision not to offer your child a place at Bingley Grammar School if you believe a mistake has been made in implementing the admission criteria or if you have exceptional circumstances.

  •  You MUST return the admission acceptance slip to the school that your child has been allocated. If you don’t, you risk your child's current place at any school being withdrawn.
  • It is strongly advisable to complete the waiting list form that accompanied your allocation email / letter and return it to Bradford Council School Admissions to place your child on the waiting list if you have not already done so. – This will be in the email or letter from Bradford Council allocating your child’s school place.
  • Complete the online appeal at https://www.bingleygrammar.org/admissionappeal and return by 10th May 2024. Please be aware that the first appeal hearings will not be held until 17th June 2024.

The admissions staff cannot comment on the merits of your appeal case.

Your completed appeals forms must be returned by 10th May 2024 if you wish your appeal to be heard before the end of the academic year.

Importantly, you should continue to follow the transition process of the other school (completing data-collection booklets, attending events etc.) until you are allocated a place at Bingley Grammar or another school.

Information for parents about the school admission appeals process is available from: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/admission-appeals-for-school-places/advice-for-parents-and-guardians-on-school-admission-appeals

3 . My child has been offered a place and I don’t want to accept

Even though you do not want to accept the place, you must still complete the online form or return the admission acceptance slip to Bingley Grammar School. If you do not return your acceptance slip you risk your child's place in the Bradford wide admission process being withdrawn.

Please record your acceptance online: https://www.bingleygrammar.org/acceptaplace

or email your acceptance as soon as possible to: transition@bingleygrammar.org

or by post to:

Admissions
Bingley Grammar School

You should contact Bradford Council School Admissions (using the letter or email they have sent) to request to be placed on the other school’s waiting list.

You should then contact the other school to obtain the paperwork required to appeal for a school place.

You should continue to follow the transition processes of Bingley Grammar School (completing data-collection forms, attending events etc) until your child is allocated a place at another school.

If your child has been allocated a place at an independent school, please forward your new school’s confirmation / registration letter to Bradford Council School Admissions and to transition@bingleygrammar.org, as this will have to be manually recorded.

We hope this information helps you with your next steps.
