Report 1
Monday last week, Mrs. Brankin and I led our cross country running team to participate in our inaugural Skipton race, hosted by Ermysteads. The weather was dreadful, resembling a scene from The Wizard of Oz, with bags, leaves, and branches swirling around. Despite the challenging conditions, the entire team demonstrated remarkable resilience during the tough races, which included sections running against strong headwinds.
Noteworthy moments included our Y7 A team securing a third-place finish overall, with Thomas J and Leo B both placing in the top 7 of the race. Additionally, our B team performed admirably, coming in 7th out of 11 teams. Special recognition goes to Rubie C and Theo M for displaying incredible physical and mental fortitude and determination in the adverse weather. Rubie emerged victorious in her race, while Theo claimed a commendable 3rd place. Congratulations to all for their outstanding efforts.
Report 2
Thursday, I accompanied the Y9 Rugby team to engage in our second match against Ilkley this season. Ilkley had emerged victorious in the initial match by a margin of 12 points. Following our recent triumph over Bradford Grammar B, our team was eager for redemption. With a promising start, we witnessed a superb try by Rhys S (Y8) as he concluded a fantastic breakaway play. Shortly thereafter, Ben L added to our lead with another impressive long-range try. Receiving a pass in our own 22m, Ben executed a powerful run, eluding defenders to bring the score to 14-0 in favor of Bingley.
Ilkley managed to score just before halftime, narrowing the gap to 14-5. As the second half unfolded, the weather changed, casting a shadow over the field. The game became more evenly matched, with Ilkley's tries offset by a splendid effort from Will S and another from Alfie G, who executed a clever dummy. Ilkley scored with the last play of the game, but by then, Bingley had secured victory with a final score of 24-22. Congratulations to all on a well-played match.
