OCR Sport and Physical Activity Level 3 Extended Certificate / Diploma Sports (Sports Coaching Route)

Subject Specific Entry Requirements

Grade 4 or above in Science or GCSE PE.

Small cost to visit a high ropes course as part of the practical unit.

Qualification structure/details of assessment

- The OCR Sport and Physical Activity is a vocational unit based course.  You will be assessed using a variety of methods, including formal exams, projects, case studies and practical assessment.

We offer 2 routes for students;

- Extended Certificate, this is the equivalent to one A Level. Via this route you will complete units in Body Systems, Sports Coaching, Practical Sports, Sports Development and Performance Analysis.

- Diploma, this is equivalent to two A levels and builds on the Extended certificate course by adding six more units in Working safely in Sport, Health and Fitness testing, Sports Injuries, Sport Psychology, Organisation of Sports Events and Physical Activity for Specific Groups.

As part of the course you will be expected to coach/lead younger students in school as well as organising events that support sport and activity at BGS.

How will this course support my future plans?

This course develops skills that are important for employment and higher education both within and outside of the sports sector; you will develop your leadership skills, communication skills and time management. If you are considering a Sports related course at University this is the course for you.  Many students go on to Higher Education, following routes such as Sport Coaching, Sports Development, Sports Science and Sports Rehabilitation,  Physiotherapy. In addition the variety included in the course would support a balanced set of post 16 qualifications.
