Course Entry Requirements

To study in the Sixth Form, students much achieve the general entry requirements which are a minimum of 5 x GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4 or above from a range of subjects including Mathematics and English Language.

To study any particular course, students must also achieve the subject specific minimum entry requirements (in addition to the general entry requirements) as detailed in the table below:

Art    Grade 5 in Art; Grade 5 in an English or humanities subject
Art 3D Grade 5 in an Arts subject; Grade 5 in an English or humanities subject
Biology Grade 5 in English Language & Maths + either Grades 6, 6, 5 in triple science (with 6 in Biology) or Grades 6, 6 in Combined Science*
Business (Applied) No subject specific entry requirement
Chemistry Grade 5 in English Language & Maths + either Grades 6, 6, 5 in triple science (with 6 in Chemistry) or Grades 6, 6 in Combined Science*^
Computer Science Grade 5 in Mathematics; Grade 5 in Computer Science
Core Mathematics No subject specific entry requirement
Creative Digital Media Production (Applied) No subject specific entry requirement
Criminology Grade 4 in at least one science
Drama Grade 5 in Drama; Grade 5 in an English or humanities subject
Economics Grade 5 in English Language; Grade 6 in Mathematics
Engineering (Applied) Grade 4 in at least one science
English Language Grade 5 in English Language
English Literature Grade 5 in English Language & English Literature
Environmental Science Grade 5 in English Language, Grade 6 in Maths + either Grades 6, 6, 5 in triple science (with 6 in Biology) or Grades 6, 6 in Combined Science

Further Mathematics Grade 8 in Mathematics

Physics Grade 5 in English Language, Grade 6 in Maths + either Grades 6, 6, 5 in triple science (with 6 in Physics) or Grades 6, 6 in Combined Science*
Politics Grade 5 in English Language; Grade 5 in English Literature or a humanities subject
Psychology If taken at GCSE - Grade 5 in Psychology; Grade 5 in Biology (or Grades 5, 5 in Combined Science).  If not taken at GCSE - Grade 5 in English Language; Grade 5 in Biology (or Grades 5, 5 in Combined Science)
Religious Studies Grade 5 in Religious Studies; Grade 5 in an English or humanities subject
Science (Applied) Core & Additional Science at Grade 4 or above
Sociology Grade 5 in English Language; Grade 5 in English Literature or a humanities subject
Spanish Grade 6 in Spanish; Grade 5 in English Language
Sport (Applied) Grade 4 or above in Science or PE plus practical ability in a suitable sport
Travel & Tourism (Applied) No subject specific entry requirement

*   If students do not gain the standard entry requirements to study Biology, Chemistry or Physics, they are potentially able to study one pure science A Level with GCSE grade 6-5 in Combined Science or GCSE grade 6 in the relevant science (if the English & Maths requirements are met).  However, students will be required to study the Applied Science course alongside the pure science in order to support this pathway. 

^  Students taking Chemistry with GCSE grade 5 in Maths will be required to attend extra sessions which may take place after the standard school day.
