Send My Friend to School Club meet with MP Philip Davies

Miss Shah writes

In January, MP Philip Davies met with students from the Send My Friend to School club about the recent work they had completed for the campaign 'All my friends need teachers.'  Send My Friend to School is the UK coalition of the Global Campaign for Education. The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) is a global organisation working to ensure quality education for all children, with members in over 90 countries.

Please see the aim of the current campaign below.

Send My Friend to School is calling for the UK Government to launch a new global teacher strategy and work with international partners to recruit and train 1.8 million new teachers in low- and lower-middle income countries. Investing in qualified, well-trained, and well-resourced teachers is one of the greatest investments we can make in children’s futures and is key to unlocking a quality, inclusive education for all children

Following MP Philip Davies' visit, It has been great to receive feedback from MP Andrew Mitchell, the minister for Development and Africa. Please see the attached letter.

Finn R in Y12, a member of SMF writes,

I was very pleased with the response from Andrew Mitchell. He is a very distinguished minister and his expertise in his field comes across in the response. That being said, the government has dropped its manifesto commitment to contributing 0.7% of GDP to International Development, which despite Mr Mitchell's strong opposition, has not yet been restored. Nevertheless, I am very grateful to Philip Davies and Andrew Mitchell for their responses.

Thank you to Philip Davies and Andrew Mitchell. We look forward to launching the new campaign from Send My Friend to School in the next few weeks.
