Bingley Grammar School

Memorial Football Match

NEWS FROM THE SPORTS DESK

Mr Swann took the senior football team comprising of y13-11 to play in a memorial match against local rivals Beckfoot. It was to mark the 4th anniversary of the passing of a former Beckfoot student named Raees Farid.

Lots of the players involved had fond memories of their friendship with Raees and the match was more than just football (both sides were friends/ex team mates of Raees).
After a very well respected minute silence the game started with some excellent passing and moving from the Bingley lads. After several early chances, Bingley took the lead with a well taken Jack K header direct from a corner. Bingley continued to dominate possession and hit the post through a Theo M. after some excellent defensive play from Beckfoot keeping the Bingley lads at bay a chance fell to Bingley captain Toby Long who slotted it in across the keeper.
A third goal came not long after through a well taken finish by Cameron M from a Archie J cross. After some pressure from the home team they got a goal back with 6 minutes to play by their striker. The game finishing 3-1.

It is important to mention the spirit in which the match was played, with everyone showing the power of sport and camaraderie. An excellent tribute to a friend and student.
