Commiseration for the year 8 team

Our year 8 team traveled to Shelley AFC this afternoon for the West Yorkshire County Cup Final.

The match truly lived up to the occasion – it was an absolute spectacle! Both teams brought their A-game, creating a real showdown with a high-level spirit on the field.

We kicked off as the stronger of the two teams, dominating early proceedings, pressuring Brooksbank, and creating promising opportunities. It was clear from the first minute that the boys were up for it. Midway through the first half, our captain, Zach H, showcased his prowess by breaking through the defense and winning a penalty, which he coolly converted to secure the lead. Moments later, Zach struck a free kick that rattled the post, but despite our first-half dominance, we couldn't extend our advantage.

The dynamics shifted in the second half as Brooksbank found their rhythm, gradually imposing themselves. We fought hard to prevent them from scoring, but they managed to equalise with two minutes left – a defensive lapse in concentration allowed Brooksbank's striker to go around the goalkeeper and net the leveller.

Despite regular and extra time efforts, the deadlock persisted at 1-1, leading to a tense penalty shootout. Each team showcased resilience, resulting in a 4-4 score after the initial five penalties. The match then entered a sudden-death penalty shootout, with Brooksbank ultimately securing victory after saving our seventh penalty and converting theirs.

Despite the heartbreak, the journey to the County Cup Final was an outstanding achievement. The team's commitment and effort throughout the tournament are commendable. The experience gained has set the stage for future success. The goal is to translate this learning into reaching the finals for the Bradford Schools League competition. The entire squad deserves recognition for their remarkable efforts.
