A Day in the Life header

(We currently run a timetable that is adhering to Covid safety regulations. More information on this can be found on the opening page of the BGS website. We hope to be returning to the outline of the day described below as soon as it is safe for us to do so.)

A Day in the Life of a Year 12 Student…

media studies image webSchool starts at 8:30am. Morning registration runs from 8:30am to 8:40am, and this is where daily notices are given out.  Most Year 12 students take 3 subjects so you’ll probably have around 11 non-contact periods in a week, and the rest of the time will be taken up with lessons. However, these non-contacts are not an opportunity to do nothing! Instead it would be useful to catch up with homework and notes during this time.  Year 12s and Year 13s have different breaks and lunches so that the Bistro isn’t overcrowded - Year 12 break time is 10:20am and lunch time is at 12:20pm. At the end of the day there is a twenty-minute tutorial during which form tutors go through presentations concerning revision techniques, school events, opportunities and important events in the news, as well as sometimes providing an opportunity to do some work or create revision timetables.  From around May time tutors work with students on developing CVs, personal statements and applications.

A Day in the Life of a Year 13 Student…

Selina teaching image webYear 13 students are encouraged to manage their own time more and do not have to attend daily registration and tutorials as long as all lessons are attended and their studies are going well.  Year 13 break time is at 11:10am and lunch time is at 13:10pm. Most Year 13 students apply to university; much of the preparation for this is done towards the end of Year 12, but Mrs Booth works with Year 13 students to help them submit their university applications.  Students who decide to apply for apprenticeships, college or employment receive one-to-one guidance from Mrs Durrans.
