Science

Studying Science gives young people a better understanding of the world around them.  At Bingley we encourage our students to develop a positive and practical approach to Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The three sciences equip students with many skills that will support them in their later lives.  Science is an enquiry based subject which we embed throughout the curriculum and allow the students the opportunity to apply and develop their ideas in a challenging and supportive environment where the subject is bought to life and learners are inspired to achieve more.

Assessment

Students are assessed whole school twice a year in preparation for their linear assessments

Enrichment

The department offers a KS3 Science club and currently a gardening club who are working with the RHS.  We organise a range of activities both in school as well as outside school to celebrate events such as British Science Week (www.britishscienceweek.org) and World Antibiotics Awareness week. The department arranges school-wide competitions and takes part in local and national competitions such as the Royal Society of Chemistry's Chemistry Challenge and the Shell Energy Bright Ideas Challenge

In GCSE and A Level exam years revision sessions are offered to students to consolidate learning.

We also run various transition events inviting classes from local primary schools into our science labs allowing the children to get used to life at upper school in a fun but  controlled way.
