Yr 7 Sponsored Walk

On the Friday before half term, the long-awaited Year 7 sponsored walk took place in aid of the BRIs new Paediatric Wing.

Our students walked a 5km route into Crossflatts, past Crossflatts Primary School, along the canal towpath, past the 5 Rise Locks and back to school.

Our students and staff were joined by the New Wing Programme Manager Shane Embleton, Paediatric Consultant Dr Frazer and Matron Ruth Tolley on the walk.

We asked all students that took part to collect their sponsorship money over half term and we have already collected quite a lot in this morning.

All funds raised will be given to the new Paediatric Wing at the BRI to enhance the facilities by providing ‘creature comforts’ for the children and young people during their stay in hospital.

To build a bit of competition into the event Mrs Roberts has promised a 'Pizza lunch' for the form group who earn the most sponsorship and the BRI will be giving the top individual fundraisers a tour of the BRI once the wing is completed after Christmas. The tour will include:

  • A tour of the different areas of the hospital plus viewing the new Hospital Wing
  • A visit to the high fidelity training suite where students can act out some assessment and treatments
  • Meeting members of the team to talk about their jobs etc.
  • Lunch and refreshments

Well done to all students who took part and we look forward to announcing the total raised very soon.
