Year 7 Sponsored Walk
On Friday our Year 7 students will all be taking part in a 5km sponsored walk in aid of the BRIs new Paediatric Wing.
Our students will be walking into Crossflatts, along the canal towpath, past the 5 Rise Locks and back to school.
All funds raised will be given to the new Paediatric Wing at the BRI to enhance the facilities by providing ‘creature comforts’ for the children and young people during their stay in hospital.
We have been working with the BRI on various projects since meeting with Dr Frazer, Consultant Paediatrician, from the BRI at the beginning of last year.
When the process began our students acted as a consultation group with two students from each year group looking over the architect’s visuals and commenting on the décor/layout of the rooms.
The Interior design team from Gillingdodd Interiors also ran a series of workshops in school last summer where our students created mood boards generating styles and ideas for the teen room, which will be a place for older patients on the children's ward to relax and socialise.
Last year’s Year 7 sponsored walk was hugely successful raising over £4,000 - fingers crossed this year's event will be equally successful!
To build a bit of competition into the event Mrs Roberts will be hosting a 'Pizza lunch' for the form group who earn the most sponsorship and the BRI will be giving the top individual fundraisers a tour of the BRI once the wing is completed after Christmas. The tour will include:
- A tour of the different areas of the hospital plus viewing the new Hospital Wing
- A visit to the high fidelity training suite where students can act out some assessment and treatments
- Meeting members of the team to talk about their jobs etc.
- Lunch and refreshments
The money raised by the students will be spent on making the wing and each individual bed space feel comfortable and welcoming – like a home from home.
We have our fingers crossed for good weather and look forward to Friday afternoon.
