Year 7 students visit the BRI

Last week our 13 top fundraisers from Yr 7 were invited to the BRI by Dr Frazer and Mr Embleton (Programme Manager - New Hospital Wing Development) to see the work being carried out on the new wing.

Our students spent the morning visiting the old wards and seeing the plans for the new children’s wards.

Within the new wing there will be a new Adolescent Room that has been designed by Mrs McKane’s school art group! Unfortunately they were unable to go into the new wards as there was a lot of steel work being carried out at the time.

After lunch, students were allowed into a specialised training suite which doctors and surgeons use to perfect skills such as key hole surgery! The Yr 7s especially enjoyed acting out the assesments and treatments on the computerised dummies.

The students had an amazing day being treated like royalty by the doctors and nurses at the hospital who were so grateful for the thousands of pounds our students raised to pay for creature comforts and finishing touches on the new children’s wards.

Yr 7 held a sponsored walk around the school grounds and raised over £4,000 which was donated to the BRI earlier this year.

Mr Brown, Ms Boyd and the students would like to say thank you to the hospital staff for making them feel so welcome and appreciated – that sponsored walk in the mud and rain was definitely worth it!
