Bingley Grammar School

Yr 12 Blog Success

At the end of term, the sixth form team passed on a blog link to Mr Weston – the blog is amazingly well written and extremely open and honest about one student’s experiences of alopecia.

Mr Weston was impressed with the blog and thought it was good enough to share with our wider school community – so here it is, Niamh Richardson-Wood's blog 'Miss Wiggy'!

Thank you to Hannah Pollard in Year 12 (also a budding writer and journalist) for interviewing Niamh about her blog and why she decided to talk about alopecia so openly:

Niamh told Hannah,

"I write the blog both because I have a passion for writing and would like to pursue it in the future, but also because I have always wanted to share my experiences since I was little about what I have gone through. I want it to help other people as I didn't have this kind of information when I was younger to help me, and I want to help others know that they are not alone. I feel as though many struggle to talk about it especially those in secondary school, who struggle with the stigma around appearance as well as education. Whereas I cope with it really well and I have my whole life, I am not a 'newbie'. I hope to keep writing and continue to support and inform more and more people whilst reaching a wider audience."

Niamh has been working alongside the company Trendco (the nation’s number one wig suppliers) and her blog has had over 3,000 views from all over the world! Niamh is also a youth ambassador for Trendco and attends support groups and meetings with the company to expand her role.

We would like to wish Niamh the best of luck with the blog and her growing role within Trendco – we look forward to reading many more.
