Yr 10 Work Experience Week

The local and wider community has pulled out all the stops to accommodate our Yr 10 students on work experience this year with students working at a very wide selection of placements.

Our Careers & Work Related Learning Coordinator, Mrs Porter, rang round the employers to inquire how our students were getting on and received some excellent feed back from them.

Here is just a small sample of how things went:

One student working with Naz Shah MP for Bradford West Constituency has been researching and compiling letters in reply to constituents queries regarding subjects such as the Media Museum and the high speed rail network. They also attended meetings and were involved with imputing data.

Another student did very well at The Big Soup Theatre, interacting with the service users and supporting on stage with props. The employer said "we will have her back anytime!"

Nuffield Gym were impressed by our student who was working on the Reception desk as well as in the gym "he is very confident and fantastic with the customers".

Airevalley Guitars accommodated a student and he was involved with merchandising, selling, cleaning and tuning guitars.

Don Whitley Scientific said the would consider offering a position to the student who went there.

Our student at Saltaire Brewery was great and worked well in the finance department, sales and the brewing section.

Gatehouse Veterinary practice said our student was "a pleasure to have on board, with excellent attitude, time keeping and manners. They even coped in the operating room and kept asking questions".

Feed back from students so far is good, they would like "later starting times", "earlier finishing" and "longer breaks" - wouldn't we all!

A big thank you to parents, carers and tutors without whose help work experience wouldn't happen.
