Salters' Chemistry Challenge

On 25th April, Mr Allen and Mrs Snowden took four Year 8 students to compete in the Salters/Royal Society of Chemistry's Chemistry Challenge at Bradford University.

On the day students from 13 schools competed in two challenges in the University Chemistry Laboratories and also enjoyed a Chemical Magic Demonstration and prize giving ceremony.

Our students excelled in the main Salters Challenge and were awarded second prize, narrowly pipped to the post by Guiseley School. This repeated our achievement in 2017.

The students carried out the 2 hour team challenge including numerous chemical analytical techniques, whilst no teachers were allowed in the lab. Our students proved themselves in the face of extremely strong opposition, including Bradford Grammar, Hymers College (Hull) and Queen Elizabeth's Grammar (Blackburn).

Well done to Hasan, Harris, Dylan and Samir (an all boy team this year due to the competition clashing with the girls HPV vaccinations.)

Mr Allen said,

"The team showed logical thinking, enthusiasm, team-work and fairness throughout, as well as a real competitive edge. Congratulations!"
