Year 7 Charity Football Tournament

Kicking it for Charity...

Friday afternoon saw a trio of intrepid year 7's set out to run their very first charity football tournament. Sam Brooke, Joe Hall and Josh Holdsworth planned and organised a 4 team football tournament getting together all the players, sorting them into 4 teams and putting together a fixtures list...

With a great turnout of nearly 30 lads split into four teams, England, Argentina, the Netherlands and Iran (don't ask) we set out to raise some money and show off some silky skills. Referees Ben "Don't dare wine at me" Webster and Andy "the commentator" Pickles took charge and the games were underway. Some fantastic football was on display, with some great individual performances, but every single player put their all into every match and their attitude to the sport is an example to many of the well paid professionals at the world cup!

Special mentions go to the penalty stopping extraordinaire Oscar, some solid defending by Akif Rahman, silky skills by Adam Wilson and the afternoon's man of the match Junaid Bashir who put in a sterling performance across the board, capped off with a last minute goal in the final match.

After a couple of tense matches we found our victors and Argentina were crowned the winners after defeating the Netherlands 7-2! With a fantastic 3rd and 4th place play off match also being played the mighty England put 7 goals past the "glorious nation of Iran" and despite a fleeting comeback the score ended 7-3!

A massive thank you to all the lads involved who after a final count have raised over £50 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
