Bingley Grammar School

logoBingley Book Week

This year we hosted the first Bingley Book Week to coincide with World Book day. This has been a huge success with lots going on around school.

Prior to Book Week the travelling book company came into school, providing some lovely books and stationary for students to purchase. All pupil premium students were given a voucher to exchange for a book and over 100 books were bought over the week.

'Where Reading Takes You' Competition

As part of the build up to World Book Day Mrs Varley invited all our students to enter a national competition run by the World Book Day organisation to create a video exploring the subject of 'Where Reading Takes You'. Our in-school winner was Yr 7 student Samuel Barnard who created a very sophisticated responce using family members to illustrate the joys of reading for all ages. Well done Samuel!

Pre-loved Book Swap

Staff kindly donated books to kick start our pre-loved book swap last week and students were invited to bring in their old books to exchange for a voucher which they could then use to 'buy' a different book. The swap shop in the library went down a storm at lunchtimes and we are looking at running another book swap in the future.

Pupils have also been doing extra literacy in form time and many have entered the BBC's '500 words' short story completion
