Our Summer Picnic Concert
On the evening of Wednesday 6th July, our Music department welcomed friends and family to our Summer Picnic Concert where our various music groups entertained our guests with many different genres of music.
The evening began with our singing group Vocal performing several song with beautiful harmonies and strong pitch perfect voices.
Next our student led Swing band performed a flawless rendition of the Pink Panther by H.Mancini.
Then there was a change of pace as Yr 7 student Louie Rosano got feet tapping to his electric guitar solo of Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Afterwards another of our student led groups Fluttissimo impressed the audience with their beautiful, flowing Waltz of the Flowers from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker.
Our second soloist of the evening followed on from Fluttissimo. Yr 7 Leo Maitland performed an excellent rendition of Summertime by George Gershwin on the trumpet from memory!
Next two of our Yr 10 GCSE music students, Liz Kelly (on piano) and Lois Brook (vocals) performed an excellent medley of Let it Go from the Disney film Frozen which flowed seamlessly into Adele's Hello.
To end the first half our Electric Guitar group performed Eye of the Tiger arranged by Mr Marks one of our two Guitar teachers.
During the interval our guests were offered Pimms and Strawberries and other refreshments whilst our singing group Vocal performed some amazing solos showcasing the talent and vocal ranges of our students.
The second half of our concert was kicked off by our Saxophone Quartet playing a wonderfully rhythmic Ulla in Africa by H.Wiberny.
Next the String Ensemble played two pieces; Fiddle Dance by P. Fletcher and Kingdom Dance arranged by Yr 12 student Phillipa Booth.
Our Clarinet Ensemble played a beautiful piece entitled A Clarinet by Yr 11 student Beatrice Overend.
Our student led group Saxophonics played a super rendition of the Wallace and Gromit Theme by J.Nott. The group involved synchronised movement into their performance making for great entertainment as ever!
Next our Yr 10 GCSE Music Boys performed an excellent version of Feelin' Good by L.Bricusse on Piano, Drums and Vocals.
And lastly our Orchestra provided a fantastic finale playing The Force Awakens (Star Wars) by J.Williams complete with atmospheric lighting.
Mrs Marks would like to thank everyone involved for making the Summer Concert so successful. Our Music students spend hours and hours of their own time taking lessons and practising in student led groups and we value their effort and dedication greatly.
We would also like to say thank you and best wishes to any of our Yr 11, 12 and 13 students who are leaving us this year. Their contribution to the department is much appreciated and they will be deeply missed.< Back to all news stories
