The Summer Music Concert
Last Thursday students from all year groups performed in the Summer Music Concert in front of family, friends, teachers and support staff.
The concert was a real mix of instruments and genres and demonstrated the breadth of music being enjoyed at Bingley Grammar School.
The concert was hosted by two of our Yr 13 students, Philippa Booth and Emily Hart who did a great job of introducing the musicians and singers throughout the evening. Philippa and Emily are leaving us this year and their presence in the music department will be missed.
Our String Ensemble were first to perform playing 'Chanson de Matin' by Elgar and 'Jamaican Rumba' by A Benjamin. This was followed by Yr 8 student Poppy who bravely took to the stage solo, playing the guitar and singing 'Bonfire Heart' by James Blunt.
The Saxophonics were next up with a lively performance of 'I Want You Back' which was arranged by Z.Salomon, followed by the first of our two rock bands of the evening Distort playing their own song Larceny!
Yr 13 Philippa Booth played a technically brilliant violin solo of the theme from Schindlers List by J.Williams and our Bass Clarinet and Bassoon Trio played an atmospheric 'Misty Mountains' by H.Shore.
The Electric Guitar ensemble played a fantastic version of 'We are the Champions' by Queen arranged by Mr Marks and Drumline rounded off the first half of the show with a high energy version of 'The Final Countdown' arranged by Mr Lewalski.
Our audience were entertained by some of our vocalists during the interval including a beautiful performance from Olivia, one of Mr Sykes students from a Leeds school. The second half was opened by our Saxophone quartet playing 'Diffusion No.1 1st Movement' by G.Goodwin.
Next our Swing Band played a Jungle Book Medley arranged by one of our talented Yr 12 students Beatrice Overend. Our second rock band The Marones played 'T.N.T' by ACDC complete with rock moves and in contrast our Clarinet Ensemble played 'Skyrim' by T.Callahan.
Yr 9 student Aina performed 'Uptown Funk' on the drums accompanied by several of our musicians and teachers which turned into a really fantastic experience - the audience clapped along and our vocalists took turns singing along.
After Mr Marks fixed the feedback issue our Chamber Orchestra played 'The Incredibles' by M.Giacchino and Charlotte in Yr 7 played Le Elephant on the Piano.
To round off the evening Vocale, our hugely talented singing group, performed 'Rolling in the Deep' arranged by Mr Sykes.
The evening was a great success - our Yr 13 hosts Phillipa and Emily thanked Head of Music Mrs Marks and our woodwind and piano tutor Mr McGuffie for their continued support throughout their time at Bingley Grammar presenting them with gifts and flowers. Finally Mrs Dean, our Deputy Head, thanked our music teachers and the students for all their hard work and dedication as well as the parents and carers for their support. Finally Mrs Dean thanked our Admin team for their hard work organising and running the event. Well done to all involved - together you put on a great show!< Back to all news stories
