School Summer Games
Over three days in June we competed in our first Hanson School Summer games. The competition involved around 15 schools, competing in a range of sporting activities to gain points for their school.
The Aquatics event came first with our team doing incredibly well. The event was held at Eccleshill Swimming Pool and 7 teams competed for the first round of points. Bingley entered teams into both Junior (Year 7 & 8) and Inter (Year 9 &10) level events for both boys and girls. Competition was fierce across all four age groups but Bingley's very capable swimmers held their own in every race. Throughout the whole afternoon Bingley Grammar School did themselves proud and represented school incredibly well, their support for one another was great to see and it was a pleasure to spend time with this group of students. Overall results were very close and Bingley took first place in the Girls Inter event and third place in all the other events. Which resulted in us placing 2nd with our rival SBSJ and only missing out by 1 point behind first place Morley. Our swim team made an excellent start to the three-day Summer Games allowing our other competitors to go into the next two days in 2nd place.
The badminton competition was again a first for us in recent years and the team found it hard at first against some very good county level players. We won 6 out of 20 games, facing some tough competition. Ella R and Zara A won 2 games each in the singles matches, Ella and Amani teamed up in the doubles games and came away with 2 wins. Charlotte L was a crucial member of the team doubling up with Amani S and Zara A in the doubles games. The girls played some close games with unfortunate loses but never gave up, their team spirit was high as they continually encouraged each other and gave 100% effort. We finished in fourth place beating Morley.
The final day included the athletics, indoor rowing and the Year 7 rounders competition with 44 of our students taking parts. The weather wasn't ideal for a day event, but our students once again were amazing. The Year 7 rounders team did well coming 5th and we were second in the year 8 and 9 rowing events. The athletic performances were full of energy and commitment and some of the performances were outstanding. Special mention must go to Holly G and Sophie C in year 10, who won their respective events. Other notable performances were from Isabella E and Ruben W whose tactical awareness and race plan in the 800m was brilliant. Both finishing second against county athletes.
