On Tuesday 19 April the Yr 8 rugby team travelled to West Park rugby club in Bramhope, Leeds to take part in the White Rose Series finals day. They had qualified through their solid performances over the year.
All 14 boys involved were a credit to the school and couldn't have worked harder for each other over the course of their four matches. The teams we played were a step up in class as we expected and St Bedes, Ripon Grammar, Rodillian and Ermysteads provided tough opposition.
Our defence held up and despite not quite getting the desired results, teams struggled to score through us, but were slightly better than us at moving the ball to wider channels. A 5th place finish is still very good over the course of the year.
A special mention must go to Tyler Cochrane and Josh Bhatt who performed exceptionally well during the finals day and also to Dylan Stones, who was commended by the RFU staff for holding exceptional core rugby values throughout. Well done to all who competed - onward to next year!
Also on Tuesday 19 April we took our Yr 7, Yr 9 & Yr 10 Rugby squads to the RFU Festival of Rugby event at West Park rugby club in Bramhope, Leeds. Over 50 boys took part in the event and this included two teams in the Yr 9 competition.
On a hot afternoon the boys played superbly and demonstrated a very good sense of community to their fellow team mates as well as being respectful of the opposition and officials.
The Yr 7 team played five matches winning two; the Yr 9s came third and fourth in their event with Nomaan Mohammed and Shakil Uddin scoring ten tries between them in three matches while the Yr 10's were undefeated and dominated their event.
A special thanks to all staff, parents and students involved in the school rugby season and I look forward to your involvement during the next academic year. Mr Swann< Back to all news stories
