RNLI Water Safety Talk

Yesterday afternoon our Yr 8 students were visited by Martin from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Martin explained the history of the RNLI and its role as a volunteer run charity today.

Martin explained the dangers of water; its power and how its cold temperatures, in the sea and reservoirs, can debilitate even the strongest of swimmers.

Year 8 were shown a series of videos of the lifeboats in action and a lady being rescued from the sea after being swept off the beach by a powerful wave. Martin also demonstrated how to rescue someone from cold water with the help from some student volunteers.

Mrs Faunch was voted by the students to try on the lifeboat lifeguard's uniform (sadly we didn't manage to get any photos of her) and the Yr 8s learned some valuable and possibly life-saving lessons.

We would like to say a big thank you to Martin for giving us his time, knowledge and advice.
