Rebekah Tiler goes from strength to strength

Ace weight lifter, Yr 11 student Rebekah Tiler is looking forward to her third successive european weightlifting championships.

It has been a little while since we reported on Rebekah but her career has definitely not gone quiet. Rebekah has been busy attending competitions and championships and has been going from strength to strength over the past months.

Sixteen-year-old Rebekah, who lives at Denholme, will travel to Landskrona in Sweden ready for the European Weightlifting championships that start on the 1st of August and last until the 9th, but she also has the World Championships and next year's Olympic Games in her sights.

Rebekah, who is a member of Mytholmroyd Weightlifting Club, said: "My main aim this year is to do well at the World Championships at Houston in November (20-29). If I finish in the top three it will give me ranking points towards the Olympics in Rio. I already have some points from last year's World Championships in Kazakhstan."

Rebekah competed in the European Championships at Klaipeda in Lithuania two years ago, winning three gold medals with records at under-15 level and was named as the best female lifter.
However, she did not do as well last year. In the girls 69kg category she was runner-up in the clean and jerk and overall, but won the snatch."
Rebekah said: "It was a little bit frustrating, but my main opponent was older than me by about two years. This year I am confident of success."
