Arts Summer Showcase

On the evening of Monday 8th July, our Music, Drama and Art departments presented a Summer Showcase for our parent/carers.

Mrs Oliver reports:

This year the Summer Showcase was an opportunity for students from across the three Arts Departments to showcase the hard work they have been creating all year.

The amazing Art Exhibition was displayed in the entrance of N6 for people to peruse as they arrived and the stage was set for our talented BGS students to perform to an excited audience of parents, carers, grandparents, brothers, sisters and many more!

The evening began with a (very!) loud introduction from Eagles Percussion followed by a student run group named Swing Band and a duet by the talented Sharpe sisters.  Gabriel P-E then took to the stage to revise his role as PT Barnum and perform 'From Now On', an extract from ‘The Greatest Show’ which was performed earlier in the year.

Clarinet Group and Vocale with solos from Libby C and Charlie P were next before the Year 7 Drama Group performed a series of mini duologues. From then we moved to the Sax Trio and a Drum Solo from Aina R before the Year 7 Drama Group again with a very engaging Melodrama piece, there are definitely some budding comedians in the group!

Leo M and Alex then treated the audience to a Trumpet Duet of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, Alex and Leo had only got to know each other a couple of days before the concert as Alex is one of our French exchange students, so a big well done boys for putting something together so quickly and so well!

Next we saw a collaboration between Eagles Percussion and Vocale and then a couple of pieces from Saxophonics where Elizabeth K, the leader of the group and one of our Year 13 music students passed over the direction of the group to Anna H, we wish her well with this and we know she'll do a fantastic job.

Finally, Heidi C and the cast from 'The Greatest Show' closed the showcase with a fabulous performance of ‘This is Me!’.

I would just like to say a massive Thank You to all the pupils and parents for making this event possible and a big Good Luck to all our Year 11 and 13 students leaving us this year.
