He set his personal best there in 2007 with 31mins 26secs and this time he managed 32.33 to finish in fifth place. He was supported by team-mates Frank Beresford 32.39 and Jeremy Stewart in 37.08.
After a week of snowstorms, frost and wind, the ice free route was welcomed by the runners watched by a crowd of more 1,000 people lining the route.
Jamil is promoting links with elite Kenyan runners and is preparing to undertake another trip to our link school, Jamhuri High School in Nairobi during the half term holiday to do some more leadership training.
He has recently been given a dozen tins of powdered sheep milk by Woodlands Dairy to take to Kenya. The milk is normally used for supermarket yoghurts, but Jamil uses it as an alternative to commercially produced protein drinks.
As well as running an excellent training group in Otley, Jamil is coaching Jackson Biwott, a close friend of Richard Kiplagat, the 2010 Commonwealth 10k silver medallist.
