Mr Atkinson's Friday Update

SquareToday has been an excellent day with students specifically focusing on ways to support their own and others' wellbeing. We are very proud of our students and the way they help one another whether through talking with each other or telling us if they are concerned about someone. This really emphasises the sense of belonging the students have as they really want to help one another succeed especially in these difficult times.

Moving forward over the next two weeks we will be focusing on celebrating the achievements of the students. Some of these aspects are outlined below:

Achievement Points Certificates – Yr 7 – Yr 9
From next week we will start to give out Achievement Point Certificates for Yr 7 – Yr 9. These reflect the outstanding work the students have been completing. To gain a certificate the totals are as follows:

200 Points - Bronze certificate
400 Points - Silver Certificate
600 Points - Gold Certificate
1000 Points - Platinum Certificate

Points are tallied each Monday and certificates are then given out later that week within their class groups.

LORIC Goals – Yr 7 – Yr 8
Yr 7 and Yr 8 will be focusing on setting their LORIC goals, these are written targets they work towards to help improve and develop the key skills of Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative and Communication. Once the goal has been met (either in or out of school) a certificate is awarded – these can be gained for all of the five LORIC attributes. Once a student has gained three certificates in one of the categories they will receive a badge to wear on their blazer in the appropriate colour. It is our aim that each student gains as many certificates and badges throughout the year as they can. Those who gain a badge in each of the five categories will be awarded with a special LORIC tie to signify their achievement.

Chocolate – Yr 7 – Yr 10
Currently we have a bumper order of chocolate on order for the end of half term, so apologies if you find your local supermarket has sold out. We are hoping that in the last week we can reward the majority of the students with a small token to say well done and thank you.

Progress Hoodies – Yr 11
Mr Brown and Mr Bridge are currently asking staff for engagement with learning scores for Yr 11. Those students with a score of 2 or more will receive a BGS Progress Hoodie. So far this is looking really positive and the final set of data will be in this week. We have been promised they should arrive before the final week of this half term so watch this space!

Finally, thank you to all parents and carers for your support in these testing times as we realise when students go home they will be shattered or have worries that they express to you. If you feel that your child does need extra support please do contact the year teams whose details can be found at this link:
