Healthy Eating Week House Competition
On Monday after school the Food Technology department hosted the Healthy Eating Week House Competition.
Each form group in Year 7 and Year 8 were invited to enter one of their students into the competition to create a healthy ‘grab and go’ snack which could end up being served in the school restaurant.
Our restaurant manager Amanda Stevenson judged the competition and spent a long time discussing the nutritional aspects of the recipes with the students whilst also suggesting ways to develop their recipes further.
Amanda, Mrs Wilkinson and Miss Iles were extremely impressed by all the entrants who had clearly taken on board the healthy eating brief.
The winning 'grab and go' recipe was designed and created by Rob Andrew and Theo Hester in Yr 7. Their Crunchy Californian Chicken Wrap with Salad and Salsa was not only balanced and healthy but also delicious and easy to eat. Well done boys – we look forward to sampling your winning snack which will be served in the restaurant soon.
Second place was given to Zara Ahmed and Yasmin Lynn also in Yr 7 who baked Blueberry and Raspberry Fruit Buns. To make the recipe healthier Zara and Yasmin opted to use wholemeal flour and crème freiche in the recipe.
Amanda commended all our entrants efforts saying every one of them would be a product she could sell in the school restaurant.
