Bingley Grammar School

Tuesday evening’s student led adapted production of ‘Hairspray the Musical’ was a performance worthy of London’s West End!

The cast and behind the scenes crew have been working hard every spare minute  for weeks to ensure that everything was perfect for the big performance and the amazing props were  lovingly put together by our Art Technician Jill Boyd.
The whole cast gave a vibrant, colourful and fun filled performance, which was enjoyed by audience members young and old. Our very own Mr Cook, Head of Year 7 played the part of Edna Turnblad, Tracy’s mum to much comedy effect.

A record number of tickets were sold for this year's production with tickets selling out and more chairs needing to be added!

Mr Weston, Headteacher said, “What a great show! I would like to say thank you to everyone involved in the production – thank you to all the staff (Rachel Oliver, Jill Boyd and Mike Bellenie to name a few) and students that have given up their own time to put the show together and a massive well done to Alicia Sharpe and Leah Jeffrey in Year 13 for producing and directing the production. Lastly I would like to thank the audience – it is great to see this level of support for the students from families and friends.”

We've also received some lovely comments from those who came to watch the production:

“What a talented group of students – we really have enjoyed every minute of the show - my younger daughter is looking forward to coming to Bingley to be involved in performances like this.”  Parent

“It made me want to join in and dance! Such powerful voices and great acting – it was hard to believe it was a school production, it was all so well done!”  Parent

Our Year 12 and 13 Performing Arts students planned, produced and directed the show and also took full responsibility for front of house on the night as part of their coursework.

Our Artsmark cluster schools (Crossflatts Primary, Eldwick Primary, Priestthorpe Primary and Oldfield Primary) were also treated to a performance during the day yesterday which was met with lots of excitement and applause. Some of the comments from Eldwick students were:

“We were all impressed by their confidence on stage.”

“All of us would love to watch it again!”

“Thank you so much for inviting us to the performance.”
From Mrs Franz, Mr Cross and all of Year 4 at Eldwick.

It really was a great success on every level and those involved should be extremely proud of everything they achieved.
