Mrs Wilkinson's first Gastronauts (Food Science) Club was a great success at lunchtime yesterday - 20 students came along and made toffee apples ready for bonfire night!
Mrs Wilkinson spoke about the scientific role of sugar in making toffee and what happens to its structure when heat is applied (caramelisation). Our Gastronauts got to then enjoy the toffee apples - once they had cooled down of course!
Gastronauts is a food science and nutrition based lunchtime club where students can learn about the seasonal food we eat and the science behind it. Throughout the club students will be experimenting, making, eating, and discovering facts about the foods we eat at seasonal times of the year.
Next week Mrs Wilkinson plans to find a healthy seasonal alternative to fries!< Back to all news stories
