Ellie has been a volunteer at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for over 5 years, spending the majority of her weekends and school holidays working in many different roles within the heritage railway and its stations.
Ellie is currently the Civil Secretary and works with others to plan major track works, balance budgets and take minutes in meetings ensuring the railway is fit for running trains. She is also the Young Persons Mentor at the railway and is hoping to inspire more young people and particularly females to join the railway volunteers.
Ellie has spent time working alongside other volunteers in the locomotive workshop/stations and catering departments ensuring all tourists and locals alike enjoy their experience at Keighley’s highly regarded Heritage railway. As the railway closed during lockdowns Ellie couldn’t participate in her usual roles so she devoted her time and effort to ensuring the railway stayed safe and secure by completing security track walks (4 miles) in the evenings, inspecting the main line and ensuring it was clear for running trains.
