The first Bingley Grammar School Duke of Edinburgh expedition for a number of years took place last weekend. 50 Yr 10 students completed the two day journey from Cote Hill near Harewood to Burley Woodhead or vice versa, with an overnight camp at Bramhope campsite. The weekend was enjoyed by all but proved to be a steep learning curve for many of the participants. It was clear that some students had no idea what they had let themselves in for!
The standard of navigation was generally very high with only two teams getting slightly lost during day two. The tropical thunderstorm that descended on camp during Saturday evening rapidly turned the campsite into a bog - well done to the teams for keeping morale high despite all belongings becoming completely soaked through.
The qualifying expedition will take place in July in Nidderdale. Hopefully the group will have learned from their mistakes from this training weekend (eating all your food on day one is probably not the best idea!). Fingers crossed for some drier weather next time.
A big thank you to the parents and carers for the drop offs, pick ups and help cleaning and drying equipment. Thank you also to Mr Martin, Dr Crowder, Mr McGregor, Miss McKeating, Miss Rennie, Mr Hussain and Mr Langan for giving up their weekends to make everything run smoothly.
