Author Kit Berry Inspires

On the 24th May we welcomed the author of the successful Stonewylde books, Kit Berry to inspire our students.

Kit Berry spoke to 9 classes from Years 7, 8 and 9 giving an insight into her life as an author; how she took the leap to become an author and what inspires her to write. The students were fascinated by Kits stories of labyrinths and magical stone quarries, and very much enjoyed the readings Kit gave from the first of the Stonewylde collection, ‘Magus of Stonewylde’. Kit was a secondary teacher until she had an epiphany on a training course at the centre of a labyrinths which led her to begin writing of the imaginary magical world which had already begun to develop in her imagination. Kit explained to the groups how the three initial Stonewylde books were turned down by 13 different publishers before she decided to self-publish.

There are now 5 books in the series and due to their success Kit has since gained a publishing deal with Orion books. Kit told the students her life has changed massively since becoming an author and she is in the process of writing two children’s books and turning Stonewylde into a screenplay to become a TV series!

We would like to thank Kit for making the journey from Reading to inspire our students.
