Silver Medal at the English Schools Diving Competition
Massive congratulations to Koben who competed in the English Schools Diving Competition at the Olympic pool in London last weekend (9th & 10th Dec). Koben won silver competing in the Boys 1 Metre springboard event where he scored 191.40 points for 5 dives beating his personal best by 50 points! Koben and the North East Division went on to win the team trophy.
Koben has been diving for three years and trains 8 times a week both in the pool, and on strengthening and conditioning – that’s 21 hours a week!
Recently he competed at the Irish National Diving championships in Dublin where he dived against 2 recent Olympic competitors and other competitors ranging from 12 to 24 years. He also competed at the Scottish National Diving championships where he finished 5th with a new personal best score of 348.45. Koben was the youngest competitor in Edinburgh competing against 15 / 16 year olds.
Koben is also due to compete in Eindoven in the Netherlands in January at the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium. We look forward to hearing more about Koben’s diving career and wish him luck in his future competitions.
Thaissa started to practice Taekwondo in May 2016 and progressed extremely quickly. Her first competition was in October 2016 where she won the gold medal for fighting and the silver medal for Poomsae (a defined pattern of defence and attack motions).
Since then Thai has won an amazing 14 gold medals including the title of Poomsae British National Champion in 2016 and the best newcomer of 2016 at her club awards (Horizon Taekwondo Academy). Thai competed in Vienna, Austria last month and is currently doing the trials for GB Poomsae team. Thai will represent Great Britain on the 20th January in Lille (France).
Congratulations to Thai and we look forward to following your amazing achievements in the future!

Army Cadet Force International Shooting Competition
Well done to Willow in Year 11 who, in July, was invited to take part in the Inter Services Cadet Rifle Meeting Bisley 2017. Willow was selected to represent Yorkshire North and West Army Cadet Force in this prestigious target rifle shooting competition which Second Lieutenant Smith said was based on her dedication and talent for target shooting.
Well done to Maisy in Year 9 who attended the Bradford District Netball trials this week and made the team! We look forward to hearing about your future matches soon.
Well done to Alyssa who performed alongside others at the Sight Airedale concert at Keighley Playhouse. Alyssa sang three solos, All I Ask, Supermarket Flowers and Rise up, which we are informed were so beautifully performed that the audience were brought to tears.
The evening was a great success and the group raised £900 for the charity.
The Great North Run
Bayley-Connor Dunn and Alexander Stewart both completed the Great North Run at the weekend, raising money for the charity Make-a-Wish.
Bayley completed the run in 1 hour 46 mins and Alex in 1 hour 35 mins which is a fantastic achievement for both boys in their first year. Both Bayley and Alex have previously completed the junior version of the run and jumped at the chance of completing the physical challenge a year earlier than anticipated when the organisers decided to reduce the entry age to 17 for the first time this year. Congratulations to you both - what an achievement!
National 3 Peaks Charity Walk
A massive well done to Yr 11 Suffyan Bashir who, during the summer break, conquered the National 3 Peaks Challenge with a group of friends for charity over the course of the bank holiday weekend. Suffyan and his friend Nazim Ali climbed Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales on consecutive days and raised over £3,000 for the international humanitarian organisation, SKT Welfare. Well done Suffyan!
During the summer break Yr 10 student Tom Blenkinsop competed in the Yorkshire Regional Time Trial Championships at the newly-opened Brownlee Centre in North Leeds as part of his team the Bronte Tykes. Tom did brilliantly and won bronze in the U15 Boys category, well done Tom!
