Our school uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the overall ethos of Bingley Grammar School.

Aims:
• To instil pride and identity.
• To support positive behaviour and discipline.
• To ensure that all pupils regardless of race or background feel welcome.
• To protect children from social pressures to dress in a particular way.
• School uniform supports effective teaching and learning.

This uniform is to be worn at all times at school and on the journeys to and from school.

Items are available from Henry Smith’s in Shipley, Rawcliffe’s and Natasha's Schoolwear in Bradford and Andrew Firth in Keighley.


Girls Uniform

The following items are only available from the suppliers

Blazer (Compulsory)   

BGS Blazer with badge (Compulsory)

Sweater (Optional)  

V-necked sweater in Bingley Red with embroidered school motif

Tie

BGS Clip-on House tie

Scarf (Optional)  

BGS House scarf or school scarf. No other scarf may be worn.

Hajib   

Plain Black/no patterns or logo’s.

Traditional dress

Black loose fitting trousers and tunic. A Bingley Grammar Blazer must be  worn over the top.

 


The following items are available at any outlet:

 

Trousers Plain

Black trousers of conventional material (not linen) and school style (not tracksuit bottoms, not shellsuits, not denim, not ski-pants or leggings, not combat trousers etc). We recommend the Trutex style available from Uniform Suppliers.

Shirt    

White shirt with stiff collar (not baggy or tailored) must be tucked in, or a fitted shirt which completely covers the midriff.

Shoes  

Black shoes. Not canvas. Heel max 65 mm. No trainers or shoes with a Sports Manufacturer Logo.

Socks

Black or navy.

Outdoor Coat

Any reasonable style of coat but without any logos. Denim jackets and sweatshirts, hoodies are not permitted.

Hats     

Plain woollen hats will be permitted in cold weather. Baseball caps are not permitted.

 



Boys Uniform

Girls and Boys

  • A craft apron is required for design technology.
  • Jewellery is not permitted (only one small stud in each ear lobe is allowed)
  • Nose studs and eye studs are not permitted, nor any other type of body piercing.
  • Training shoes are not permitted.
  • Pupils’ hair must not reflect the extremes of youth culture. (Pastoral Leader’s discretion).
  • Name labels should be attached to the inside of each item of clothing.
  • Summer Uniform: During the second half of the Summer term, and at other times when the weather is hot, the Headteacher may allow summer uniform, which is to say that pupils need not wear a blazer. However, if a pupil should need to wear an additional garment for warmth, this must be the school blazer; no other garment should be worn in its place. Ties must be worn as normal. NB: There will no change to these Uniform Regulations without reasonable prior notice.
  • The wearing of a single significant item such as a Christian crucifix or Sikh kara (wristband) are allowed. They must be removed for P.E. All other requests should be discussed with the Head of Year.
