Bingley Grammar School

Ethos_3Year 8 Options Evening 2018

Just to remind you, we are holding our Key Stage 4 (GCSE) Options Evening on Wednesday 18th April between 5.30pm - 7.30pm, for Year 8 students and their parents/carers.

As you may be aware, recently there have been a large number of changes in education. The Government has introduced a new grading structure with the old A* - G grades being replaced by grades 9 – 1. The new benchmark, grade 5 (strong pass) will be more difficult to achieve than the previous C grade.

In light of these national changes, we have decided, along with many other schools to introduce our Key Stage 4 programme of study (Options) from the start of Year 9.

To ensure that we support pupils to achieve the new benchmark we will be giving more curriculum time to the core curriculum (e.g. English language, English literature, Maths, Science, Geography and/or History and where already studied; a Foreign Language). Pupils will also take part in PE and PHSCE lessons.

Starting the Key Stage 4 Programme of Study at the beginning of Year 9 enables the school to dedicate more teaching time to examination subjects listed above, as well as allowing pupils to choose two further specialist subjects.

Therefore, we would like to invite you to the Key Stage 4 Options Evening on Wednesday 18th April 2018, where we will explain the changes and opportunities in more detail.

Presentations will be held in N6 throughout the evening. We are asking parents to attend specific presentations according to the house of their son/daughter/ward:-

Milner 5.40pm   Oldfield 6.00pm   Sunderland 6.20pm   Wooller 6.40pm

There will also be and extra presentation at 7.00pm for those unable to attend their allotted times. If these timings cause you a problem please get in touch with the school.

Staff will also be available along the B/G corridor to talk in more detail about the courses available and an options brochure will be available on the school website after the event. Our aim is to ensure that all students gain the best qualifications and thus enable them to gain entry into our Sixth Form, further education or to prepare them for the world of work.

Please note: The presentations will be held in the Main Hall (N6), not the Sports Hall as stated in the letter sent home before the Easter break.
